Hello and welcome to Short Folk everywhere! Welcome all Boshemians! “What is a Boshemian,” I hear you cry. “What the hell is a Short Folk, for that matter?” That is exactly what I am here to tell you.
We can do this the short way or the fun way, so let’s do both, but short first, since everything (and everyone) starts short.
A Short Folk is Boshemian in training. It’s a person who starts small and grows from there, in short—everyone! Every big person and every big folk has the little folk still inside somewhere, and every one of us, no matter the size, is growing into something bigger and better. Life is an adventure, and we are all on it together!
A Boshemian is what a short folk grows into if one is very dedicated and just a little lucky. A Boshemian is a folk that imagines in very fine detail the world in which they desire to live, and then begins immediately therein to live. I may be the first Boshemian, by name, but the concept is not a new one, and it’s a concept we can all incorporate as we move toward an evolved society and a better world.
Ok, that’s the short answer, and now those with short attention spans can bumble off, and I can proceed to tell you more while I incorporate the long answer.
Boshemia is my world, my bubble, my personal utopia. I’ve been living in this world for more than a decade now, and it’s an evolving space in which I am becoming more and more of the person I was meant to be. Fortunately for short folk everywhere, Boshemia is big enough for everyone. I’ll explain. No, it is too much. Let me sum up.
First a little story. The name Boshemia came to me in 2010, when I had just bought a 23-foot camper as my first home, and was heading out into the world. My home needed a name, and I needed it to be a good one, a name that would describe myself and my daughters, my endeavors, my dreams, and my plans. For a while I wanted to call our home the Chicatauqua, but the reference was just too obscure (wiki: Chautauqua), even before I mashed it together with chicas. It was too much to explain to every stranger we passed. I was trying to think of how to feminize words that could describe our essence, so eventually I hit on Bohemian, which feminized into Boshemian nicely. Of course, it was still a complete enigma to the passing stranger, but at least it was easier to explain (“We’d be Bohemians, but we’re not he’s!”).
The original Boshemian has gone to 1988’s camper heaven now, but the ideal lives within me, and within bright young short folk everywhere. [Insert link to other self-proclaimed Boshemians? Interesting idea….] A Boshemian is what all the brightest and best short folk are becoming, even if they haven’t heard their titles yet. In fact, if you are reading this, chances are good that you, too, are a Boshemian! Welcome, you survivor, you savior, you beautiful chunk of spirit in a meat sack!
So what do Boshemians do when they get together on a website? Short answer: Whatever the hiphop we want! Longer answer: We join in the world-wide effort to birth the new planet, to birth our bigger and better selves, to birth our next collective phase of consciousness. We support each other in growing up!
Can anyone be a Boshemian, even a he? Yes, a resounding yes! I once made the mistake (sorry, Johnny) of thinking that Boshemia was for women, but…I grew up and realized that Boshemia has to be for everyone or it can’t be for anyone. Boys are welcome, especially if they happen to be grown up enough to realize that girls are people, too! All people are people, even if they aren’t boys OR girls. In fact, even some animals are people! As long as you’re interested in growing up, even if you don’t know how, you’re becoming a Boshemian.
And that leads me to my next subject, exactly how can one become a Boshemian? We’ve been through the simple definition—imagine your perfect world and then live in it—but the details, oh the details are the crunch. Well, never fear, there are some tips and tricks, and this website is one way to learn some of them. New tips and tricks are always welcome, so feel free to speak up if you know or have seen any ideas not already featured here.
